Description & Operation

1994 Mercury Capri XR2, AutomaticSECTION Description & Operation

A single V-belt drives the water pump and alternator. The power steering pump is separately driven by a single V- ribbed belt. On vehicles equipped with both power steering and air conditioning, a single belt drives both. Belts must be properly adjusted at all times. Loose belt(s) will result in slippage which may cause a noise condition or improper accessory operation (alternator will not charge, etc.). Over-tightened belts will place an unnecessary load on the accessory bearings. See Fig 1 .
