Description & Operation: Wiper/Washer

1991 Mercury Tracer Base, 4D Sedan, AutomaticSECTION Wiper/Washer

The wiper system consists of a wiper motor, relay and switch. The motor is located in the engine compartment, on driver-side bulkhead. The relay, which provides intermittent wiper function, is located under the driver-side dash panel.

The multifunction wiper/washer switch, mounted on the right of the steering column, has 4 positions: OFF, INT, I and II. Pushing the switch down activates MIST function, which cycles the wipers once to clear the windshield of light moisture. Pulling the switch back activates the washer system.

The INT position cycles the wipers intermittently every 15-20 seconds to maintain visibility in light rain. A variable speed intermittent system, which provides adjustable wipe cycle frequency, is also available as an option.
