1991 Mercury Cougar LS, 3.8 4SECTION Diagnostic Aids

Perform this test only when instructed by QUICK TEST, or when directed by TEST A, TEST C, TEST DC, TEST PA or TEST PB.

This test is intended to diagnose only the following systems or components:

  • IRCM (Battery voltage and all relays)
  • Harness circuits (VBAT, VPWR, Key PWR, PWR GND, EDF circuit, FP circuit, HEDF circuit, A/C circuit and WAC circuit)
  • ECA
  • A/C Demand Switch Input

To prevent replacing good components, be aware that the following non-EEC related components or systems may be at fault:

  • Fuel lines or fuel filters
  • Contaminated fuel
  • Ignition switch, battery cables and ground straps
  • Fuel pump
  • Alternator and voltage regulator
  • A/C clutch or A/C demand switch
  • Cooling fan motor
