Fuel System

1983 Mercury Lynx LS, 4D Hatchback, 1.6 5, StandardSECTION Fuel System
  1. Connect fuel pressure gauge to pressure relief valve on fuel rail assembly. See Figure . Pressurize fuel system by starting and running engine or turning ignition off and to "RUN" position several times. Fuel pressure should be 35-45 psi (2.5-3.0 kg/cm2 ).
  2. If pressure is not correct, check to ensure ignition coil is connected. Ensure that injectors, fuel pressure regulator or fuel delivery lines and connections are not leaking.
  3. If no pressure reading can be obtained, check fuel pump circuit. When fuel pressure is obtained, turn key off. Pressure must not drop more than 4 psi (.3 kg/cm2 ) within 2 minutes after ignition is turned off.
  4. If pressure drops more than specified, check for hydrostatic lock, leaking injector and/or faulty pressure regulator.
