Cruise Control: Adjustments

1982 Mercury Capri L6-200 3.3LSECTION Adjustments

BEAD CHAIN ADJUSTMENT
Adjust bead chain to obtain a taut chain with the engine at hot idle. The adjustment should be made as to remove as much slack as possible from the bead chain without restricting the carburetor lever from returning to idle. On vehicles equipped with a solenoid throttle positioner, perform adjustment with throttle positioner deactivated.

ACTUATOR CABLE ADJUSTMENT
1. Deactivate the throttle positioner.
2. Set carburetor at hot idle.
3. Pull the actuator cable to remove slack.
4. While maintaining light tension on the actuator cable, insert the cable retaining clip.

VACUUM DUMP VALVE
The vacuum dump valve is mounted on a moveable mounting bracket. The valve should be adjusted so that it is closed when the brake pedal is not depressed and opens when the brake pedal is depressed.
