Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
Functional Control Lever Operation
The lever operates the vacuum selector valve which connects vacuum to five vacuum motors. These motors actuate the outside/recirc air door, restrictor air door, heater water valve, A/C-Heat door and the heat-defrost door. A cam on the selector valve closes the A/C compressor clutch switch in both MAX and FRESH A/C positions. Since the clutch switch is connected in series with the blower switch, the functional control lever must be in either MAX or FRESH A/C position; and the blower switch must be in one of the two operating positions to engage the compressor clutch for cooling.
