Thermostatic Air Intake Duct: Testing

1966 Mercury Marauder 7.0L Eng VIN PSECTION Testing
  1. Place duct assembly in cool water (below 75Β°F). Be sure assembly is completely covered. Valve should be in closed (heat on) position. Heat the water slowly. At 85Β°F, valve should start to open.
NOTE: If valve does not start to open, stabilize water at 85Β°F for 8 minutes before replacing unit.
  2. With water at 100Β°F or higher, valve should be in fully open (heat off) position.
  3. If valve operation unsatisfactory, check valve plate shaft for binding. If no bind exists, replace thermostat and spring assembly, then retest. If valve does not operate correctly, adjust thermostat rod as follows: Increase rod length to move valve toward heat off (open) position; decrease rod length to move valve toward heat on (closed) position.
