General
In order to guarantee trouble-free operations on the vehicle during workshop visits, service staff must be able to prevent vehicle functions from being triggered accidentally, remotely or automatically.
With full implementation, the measures required for this are bundled in workshop mode so that activating workshop mode in the vehicle is sufficient for trouble-free operations on the vehicle.
At the same time, status messages allow the service personnel to detect at any time whether workshop mode is switched on.
The introduction of workshop mode begins with restriction of the remote functions.
Workshop mode is not available in all vehicles.
Function
Switches workshop mode on/off
Workshop mode is switched on and off via a menu on the instrument cluster. When workshop mode is switched on, an acknowledgeable message is shown on the driver's display. After an ignition cycle, the message is shown again as long as workshop mode has not been switched off.
When workshop mode is switched on, the Mercedes me symbol disappears in the central display.
In the current, first expansion stage, switching on workshop mode severely restricts the function of the telematics services. This means that the following functions in particular cannot be used, e.g.:
- Remote door lock and remote door unlock
- Remote engine start
- Programming of stationary heater/stationary ventilation
- Pre-entry climate control (in plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles)
- Charging settings (in plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles)
- Launch remote status:
Shown here is the last status before restriction of the remote functions.
- vehicle locating:

- Remote-controlled parking
- Remote control of head unit
- vehicle locating
- Geographical vehicle monitoring
- Visual and acoustic vehicle detection

- Info and Service Call
- Concierge service
The following functions are also available when the workshop mode is switched on:
- Automatic emergency call
- Manual emergency call
- Remote diagnosis of the vehicle (request quick test)
