General
The reversing camera control unit with color image camera is an optical parking assistance system. The color picture camera records the area behind the vehicle at an angle of approx. 130°. The pictures taken are processed appropriately for display in the multimedia display and are electronically corrected for distortion by the reversing camera control unit. The reversing camera control unit also generates dynamic guide lines which represent the driving path in the images from the color picture camera.
Function
The reversing camera control unit sends the processed pictures via a high speed video link (HSVL) interface to the following control unit for display in the multimedia display:
- Head unit/instrument cluster control unit (vehicles with Connect 5 multimedia system)
- Head unit (vehicles with Connect 20 multimedia system)
The reversing camera control unit calibrates the color picture camera automatically.
The reversing camera control unit is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle via CAN.
To implement the functions, the reversing camera control unit evaluates the following information:
- Status of reverse gear
- Service mode request
- Request for reversing camera button
- Displayed vehicle speed
- Wheel angle
The reversing camera control unit evaluates these input factors and sends the following information and requests:
- Picture data
- Requests for picture output in multimedia display
