  • Function

General

The instrument cluster control unit controls all displays in the instrument cluster, either in the head unit/instrument cluster display cluster or in the instrument cluster display.

In off-road vehicles, the display is integrated into the instrument cluster control unit.

When off-road vehicles are in stealth mode, the display is inactive and the warning tones are switched off. The warning lamps and warning tones can be activated as required.

Function

The instrument cluster control unit is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle.

To display information, the instrument cluster control unit processes information such as the following:

  • Terminal status of terminal 15
  • Fuel supply
  • Engine speed
  • Coolant temperature
  • Outside temperature
  • Requests to display system information
  • Requests to output warnings
  • Information on the on-board electrical system utilization

The instrument cluster control unit processes the incoming information and prepares it to be shown on the instrument cluster.

On vehicles with head-up display, the instrument cluster control unit also prepares the information to be shown on the head-up display. The image data is transfered via the high speed video link (HSVL) to the instrument cluster or to the head-up display.

Depending on the equipment installed, the instrument cluster control unit processes the picture data three-dimensionally. For this purpose, the driver's head position is detected by the driver camera in the instrument cluster display.

Depending on this data, the picture signal in the instrument cluster control unit is calculated and sent to the instrument cluster display. If the driver is not detected, e.g. due to concealment, the 3D display position switches smoothly to a 2D display.
