General
The head unit/instrument cluster displays show the contents of the multimedia system and instrument cluster - model dependent - in separate displays:
- Driver's display for the instrument cluster
- Central display for the multimedia system
- Front passenger display for the multimedia system (optional)
The size of the individual displays depends on the model and equipment installed. Depending on the model, the displays are integrated into a display cluster.
Location
The head unit/instrument cluster displays are located in the instrument panel.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t ON
- For central display (except climate control functions) and front passenger display on electric vehicles: The range maximization is not activated for the interior function range.
If one of the affected functions is switched on again, the range maximization for the entire function range is canceled.
Function
Driver display
Depending on the model and equipment installed, the display for the instrument cluster may be designed as a 3D-display. The driver's eye position is determined here by the driver camera. With this information, the instrument cluster control unit calculates a left and right view, which is then superimposed on the display so that a 3D impression is generated. If the driver is not recognized, e.g. due to concealment, the 3D model display switches smoothly to a 2D display model.
The 3D function can be deactivated in the head unit menu.
Depending on the model involved, two driver cameras can be located at the upper edge of the instrument cluster on the right or left of the center. The two driver cameras search for and monitor the driver's eyes. The face is inspected for characteristic features such as eyes, nose and mouth. For example, the behavior of the eyelids and any iris changes are monitored. This information can be used to link various functions that further enhance safety and comfort, and require extremely accurate locating of the head and eye positions. The driver camera information is used primarily for the 3D combination display and the augmented reality head-up display.
Central display
Depending on the model involved, LED indicator lamps may also be located on the upper and side edges of the instrument cluster.
The central display detects swipe movements with one or more fingers and tapping motions on the display (touchscreen). The inputs detected are transmitted as control signals to the head unit. To avoid obtrusive reflections, the inclination of the central display may be changed depending on the model. The display inclination is adjusted via the multimedia system's control elements, e.g. using a button in the upper control panel.
To avoid obtrusive reflections, the inclination of the central display may be changed depending on the model. The display inclination is adjusted via the multimedia system's control elements, e.g. using a button in the upper control panel. An automatic change to the display angle can also be adjusted that is coupled to the status of the soft top (open/closed).
Front passenger display
The front passenger display is also designed as a touchscreen. The control signals are transmitted to the head unit.
Hyperscreen
The hyperscreen is the combination of the driver's display, central display and front passenger display behind a screen that extends almost over the entire width of the instrument panel.
