General information
Driver assistance systems that assist the driver while driving and actively intervene in hazardous situations must not take all control away from the driver. The driver must be able to override automated system reactions at any given time.
Function
The following situations indicate driver activity and therefore result in cancellation of any system reaction:
- Steering
- Brakes
- Accelerate
In vehicles with the Driving Assistance Package, the system also evaluates the operation of various functions by the driver to determine the driver's degree of distraction, e.g. the following actions:
- Operation of the multimedia system
- Operation of on-board computer
- Operation of steering column adjustment
If the driver assistance system determines that the driver is distracted, it adapts the system reactions accordingly (warning threshold).
