The multifunction steering wheel serves to increase active driving safety in road traffic in combination with the instrument cluster (A1). The driver can concentrate on the traffic without distraction when controlling and operating various vehicle components.

The multifunction steering wheel allows the driver to control the following checks:

  • Radio and navigation
  • Telephone
  • Trip computer

The system selected by the user is shown in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1). In addition, the fanfare horns (H2) can be actuated by means of the impact plate of the multifunction steering wheel.

Each of the systems can be called with the system selection button (S110s3). It is possible to "scroll" forward and backward in the systems.

Within a system, you can scroll forwards and backwards (S110s1) to view additional submenus.

A telephone call can be accepted or terminated with the accept/terminate phone call button (S111s3).

The volume for the system currently active can be adjusted with the + and - button, setting of specific functions and volume control (S111s1). Furthermore, it is possible for instance to extend or shorten the OFF delay time for exterior lights in the system settings.

The control signals are directly transferred to the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) via discrete lines.

From the electronic ignition switch control unit (N73) on, transmission is accomplished via the Controller Area Network bus Class B (interior) (CAN-B) to the instrument cluster (A1).
