Valve Seats R & I: Notes

  1. Check valve guide prior to removing valve seat. See VALVE GUIDESΒ . If valve seat is worn, carefully remove it by machining with a valve seat remover.
  2. Thoroughly clean seat bore and measure diameter. If diameter is within specifications, install a new valve seat ring of the same size. If not, machine bore to next oversize.
  3. Heat cylinder head in water to approximately 140Β°F (60Β°C). Place pre-cooled seat ring into bore.
  4. Machine valve seat to correct width. Check valve seat for runout. DO NOTΒ  machine rounded bead on lower part of valve seat. Valve seat runout should not exceed .0016" (.040 mm).
