Valve Clearance Inspection
2010 Mazda 5 Sport, 2.3 L, StandardSECTION Valve Clearance Inspection
- Remove the plug hole plate. (See PLUG HOLE PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the battery cover. (See BATTERY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [L3] .)
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Disconnect the wiring harness.
- Remove the ignition coils. (See IGNITION COIL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Disconnect the oil control valve (OCV) connector.
- Remove the ventilation hose.
- Remove the dipstick.
- Remove the cylinder head cover. (See TIMING CHAIN REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
- Remove the engine under cover and splash shield (RH).
- Measure the valve clearance.NOTE:
- Make sure to note down the measured values for choosing the suitable replacement tappets.
- Turn the crankshaft clockwise so that the No. 1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke.
- Measure the valve clearance at A in the illustration.
- If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT .)
Valve clearance [Engine cold]
IN: 0.22-0.28 mm {0.009-0.011 in}
EX: 0.27-0.33 mm {0.011-0.012 in}
- If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT .)
- Turn the crankshaft 360° clockwise so that the No. 4 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke.
- Measure the valve clearance at B in the illustration.
- If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT .)
Valve clearance [Engine cold]
IN: 0.22-0.28 mm {0.009-0.011 in}
EX: 0.27-0.33 mm {0.011-0.012 in}
- If the valve clearance is out of the standard value, adjust it. (See
VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT .)
- Install the reverse order of removal.
