Removal and Installation

2008 Mazda Tribute s Sport, 4WDSECTION Removal and Installation

  1. Position the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and remove the ignition key.
    • Rotate the steering wheel until the steering column locks into position.
  2. Remove the clockspring. See CLOCK-SPRING .

  3. Position the steering column boot aside.
  4. Remove the steering column coupling upper pinch bolt.
    • To install, tighten to 25 N-m (2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf).

  5. If equipped, disconnect the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transceiver module electrical connector.

  6. Disconnect the wiring harness from the steering column.

  7. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.

  8. Remove the 4 steering column mounting bolts.
    • To install, tighten to 25 N-m (2.5 kgf-m, 18 ft-lbf).
  9. Remove the steering column assembly.
  10. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
