Smart Junction Box (SJB)

2008 Mazda Tribute s Sport, 4WDSECTION Smart Junction Box (SJB)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mazda Tribute. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The SJB is connected to the medium speed controller area network (CAN) communications bus. If one of the bus wires becomes shorted to ground or voltage, communications can continue at a reduced level. Check circuits 1847 (W/O), and 1848 (P/O) between the SJB J-2280a, the instrument cluster 0922-101 and the data link connector (DLC) D-01. Total resistance values must not be more than 5 ohms. If the resistance is more than 5 ohms, there is an open circuit in the medium speed CAN, damage to the DLC D-01, or damage to the SJB J-2280a. Since both the SJB and the instrument cluster share network termination responsibilities, a problem in either of these modules can result in a medium speed CAN failure. The SJB is a combination of a multifunction control module and an interior power junction box. SJB functions control multiple systems which include:

  • illuminated entry and interior lamps
  • exterior lamps
  • power door locks
  • smart locks
  • keyless entry keypad
  • remote keyless entry (RKE)
  • warning chimes
  • rear windshield wiper
  • tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)

The SJB is equipped on all vehicles and is located under the front passenger-side floor console. For removal information, see SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB)Β  .
