DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE CHART (PINPOINT TEST 3)

PINPOINT TEST 3 A SINGLE MIRROR DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH SWITCH LOGIC
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE MIRROR MOVEMENT (LEFT/RIGHT)
  • Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the left and right direction.
  • Do the exterior mirrors move left and right?Β
Yes GO to the next step.
No GO to step 4.
2 CHECK THE MIRROR MOVEMENT (UP/DOWN)
  • Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the up and down direction.
  • Do the exterior mirrors move up and down?Β
Yes The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. TEST the system for normal operation.
No GO to the next step.
3 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Rear View Mirror 0912-302 (Driver Side) or 0912-303 (Passenger Side).
  • While operating the exterior rear view mirror switch, measure the voltage between the exterior rear view mirror, driver side 0912-302 pin 1, circuit (GY/BR), harness side and ground; or between exterior rear view mirror, passenger side 0912-303 pin 1, circuit (G/BR), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?Β
Yes CHECK the LH or RH exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness can not be repaired, INSTALL a new LH or RH exterior mirror. See EXTERIOR MIRROR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. See EXTERIOR MIRROR MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . TEST the system for normal operation.
No GO to step 5.
4 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative Exterior Rear View Mirror 0912-302 (Driver Side) or 0912-303 (Passenger Side).
  • While operating the exterior rear view mirror switch, measure the voltage between the exterior rear view mirror, driver side 0912-302 pin 3, circuit (V/O), harness side and ground; or between the exterior rear view mirror, passenger side 0912-303 pin 3, circuit (GY/O), harness side and ground.
No GO to step 6.
5 CHECK FOR AN OPEN TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Measure the resistance between the exterior rear view mirror switch 0912-301 pin 5, circuit (GY/BR) harness side and the exterior rear view mirror, driver side 0912-302 pin 1, circuit (GY/BR) harness side; or between the exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 2, circuit (G/BR) harness side and the exterior rear view mirror, passenger side 0912-303 pin 1, circuit (G/BR) harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?Β
Yes INSTALL a new exterior rear view mirror switch. See EXTERIOR MIRROR CONTROL SWITCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION . TEST the system for normal operation.
No REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
6 CHECK FOR AN OPEN TO THE INOPERATIVE MIRROR
  • Measure the resistance between the exterior rear view mirror switch 0912-301 pin 8, circuit (V/O) harness side and the exterior rear view mirror, driver side 0912-302 pin 3, circuit (V/O) harness side; or between the exterior mirror control switch 0912-301 pin 7, circuit (GY/O) harness side and the exterior rear view mirror, passenger side 0912-303 pin 3, circuit (GY/O) harness side.
