- Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators install at all deployable devices, verify system. See VERIFY SYSTEMΒ
under DIAGNOSTICS. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy. If installing NEW clockspring, remove locking mechanism pull ring. If installing existing clockspring, remove tape applied during removal procedure. If clockspring rotor has moved or if unsure of clockspring rotor position, center clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERINGΒ
under ADJUSTMENTS. Maintain clockspring centered position.NOTE: Slight turning of clockspring is allowable during installation to properly align clockspring to steering column.
- Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness side of clockspring connector. Position clockspring on steering column and reconnect electrical connectors. Align large and small tabs on clockspring with large and small slots on steering column and slide clockspring over steering column. With clockspring sitting flush against combination switch, install clockspring retaining screws.
- To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEMΒ under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Ensure air bag system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ .
