Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Installation

2008 Mazda 6 s Sport, 4D Hatchback, StandardSECTION Installation

  1. If installing NEW clockspring, remove locking mechanism pull ring. If installing existing clockspring, remove tape applied during removal procedure. If clockspring rotor has moved or if unsure of clockspring rotor position, center clockspring. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERINGΒ  under ADJUSTMENTS. Maintain clockspring centered position.
    NOTE: Slight turning of clockspring is allowable during installation to properly align clockspring to steering column.
  2. Position clockspring onto steering column. Engage clockspring retaining clips. Position clockspring wiring harness down side of steering column and connect harness to retainers. Remove air bag simulator from clockspring harness connector and reconnect connectors. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. DO NOT install driver-side air bag at this time. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ  . Install Air Bag Simulator (418-F088/105-R0012) to upper clockspring connector. Connect negative battery cable. With air bag simulators installed at all deployable devices, verify system. See VERIFY SYSTEMΒ  under DIAGNOSTICS. Disconnect negative battery cable. Wait at least one minute for back-up power supply to deplete stored energy.
  3. Remove air bag simulator from upper clockspring connector. Install driver-side air bag module. Activate air bag system. See ACTIVATING SYSTEMΒ  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Ensure air bag system is functioning properly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ  .
