2008 Mazda 6 s Sport, 4D Hatchback, StandardSECTION MPV
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2002 Mazda Protege5, 2002 Mazda Protege, 2002 Mazda Millenia, 2002 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and 2002 Mazda MPV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Resistance Inspection

Intake Air temperature (IAT) sensor is part of Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Disconnect MAF/IAT sensor connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between MAF/IAT sensor terminals "A" and "F", located at each end of connector. See IAT SENSOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (MPV)Β  table. If resistance is not as specified, replace MAF/IAT sensor. If IAT sensor is within specification but PID value is out of specification, check for open or short in wiring between IAT sensor connector terminals and PCM. Go to next step.
    IAT SENSOR RESISTANCE (MPV)

    Temperature - Β°F (Β°C) Ohms
    50 (10) 3300-4100
    68 (20) 2200-2700
    86 (30) 1400-1900
  2. Open Circuit Inspection

Check for continuity between MAF/IAT sensor harness connector terminal "A" and breakout box terminal No. 91 (Brown/Yellow wire) and between terminal "F" and No. 39 (Violet wire). If continuity is not present, repair or replace open wiring harness as necessary.
  3. Short Circuit Inspection

Check for continuity between MAF/IAT sensor harness connector terminals "A" (Brown/Yellow wire) and "F" (Violet wire) to power. Check for continuity between MAF/IAT sensor harness connector terminal "F" (Violet wire) and ground. If continuity is present, repair or replace shorted wiring harness as necessary.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
