Connect tachometer to engine. Start engine, and let idle. Shutter valve actuator rod should be extended at idle for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds, Shutter valve actuator rod should retract. Gradually increase engine speed to 5250 RPM and ensure actuator rod extends. If system actuator does not operate as specified, check for vacuum leaks. If no vacuum leaks are detected, check for DTC P1523. Diagnose and repair as necessary. If DTC P1523 is not present, use scan tool in SIMULATION TEST mode to actuate solenoid valve. Listen to solenoid while actuating with scan tool. If solenoid clicks, check vacuum actuator, vacuum chamber and vacuum lines. If solenoid does not click, check solenoid. Repair or replace as necessary.
