DEMAND LIGHTING INOPERATIVE PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 5 THE DEMAND LIGHTING IS INOPERATIVE
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK CIRCUIT (LG/O) FOR VOLTAGE
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: Instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802.
  • Key ON.
  • Measure the voltage between the dimmer control switch 0918-802 pin 1, circuit (LG/O), harness side and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?Β
Yes Go to step 3.
No Go to next step.
2 CHECK CIRCUIT (LG/O) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280b.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802 pin 1, circuit (LG/O), harness side and the SJB J-2280b pin 5, circuit (LG/O), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?Β
Yes Go to step 5.
No Repair circuit (LG/O) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
3 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH
  • Connect a fused (15A) jumper wire between the instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802 pin 1, circuit (LG/O), harness side and the instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802 pin 3, circuit (B/P), harness side.
  • Do the interior lamps illuminate?Β
Yes Install a new instrument panel dimmer switch. See INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH . Test the system for normal operation.
No Remove the jumper wire. Go to next step.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (B/P) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key OFF.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280b.
  • Measure the resistance between the instrument panel dimmer switch 0918-802 pin 3, circuit (B/P), harness side and the SJB J-2280b pin 10, circuit (B/P), harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?Β
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair circuit (B/P) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
  • Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Is the concern still present?Β
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . Test the system for normal operation.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
