DTC P0340: Notes

2006 Mazda 6 s, 4D Sedan, StandardSECTION Notes
DTC P0340 [AJ] DETECTION CONDITION AND POSSIBLE CAUSES

DTC P0340 CMP sensor (RH) circuit malfunction
DETECTION CONDITION
  • The PCM monitors input voltage from the CMP sensor (RH) when the engine is running. If the CMP sensor (RH) signal timing inferred from the CKP sensor signal has deviated, PCM determines that CMP sensor (RH) circuit has malfunction.

Diagnostic support note
  • This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
  • MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
  • FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
  • DTC is stored in the PCM memory.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
  • CMP sensor (RH) malfunction
  • Connector or terminal malfunction
  • CMP sensor (RH) is dirty
  • CMP sensor (RH) malfunction
  • Short to ground circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal A and PCM terminal 2AD
  • Short to ground circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal B and PCM terminal 2AE
  • Short to power circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal A and PCM terminal 2AD
  • Short to power circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal B and PCM terminal 2AE
  • Short each harness CMP sensor (RH) terminal A and B
  • Open circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal A and PCM terminal 2AD
  • Open circuit between CMP sensor (RH) terminal B and PCM terminal 2AE
  • Timing chain or improper valve timing
  • Loose timing chain or improper valve timing
  • Loose camshaft sprocket lock bolt
  • Loose crankshaft pulley lock bolt
  • PCM malfunction

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
