Master Cylinder Push Rod

1999 Mazda Protege ES, AutomaticSECTION Master Cylinder Push Rod
  1. Before installing master cylinder, measure clearance between master cylinder piston and power brake unit push rod. Place Adjusting Gauge (49-B043-001) on master cylinder. Turn adjusting bolt until it touches bottom of pushrod hole in the piston. See Fig 1 .
  2. Using a hand-held vacuum pump, apply 19.7 in. Hg vacuum to power brake unit. Invert Adjusting Gauge (49-B043-001) used in step 1)Β  and place it onto power brake unit. Measure clearance between end of Adjusting Gauge (49-B043-001 ) and push rod of power brake unit.
  3. There should be zero clearance (air gap). If there is clearance (air gap), loosen push rod locknut and turn push rod to adjust it using Push Rod Adjuster (49-B043-004) and Adapter (49-E043-003A ). See Fig 1 .
