NOTE:
- This procedure is used if ICM data cannot be retrieved from the original ICM when replacing.
- Turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO) and record odometer mileage. Turn Key OFF.
- Connect NGS Tester and turn Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
- Select model year. If the model year is not displayed, use 2001.
- Select correct Tribute model in Vehicle Selection (YF is for I4 and AJ is for V6).
- Select Diagnostic Data Link and press Trigger.
- Select ICM and press Trigger.
- Select Programmable Module Installation and press Trigger.
- Screen displays "Verify ignition is ON and press Trigger". Press Trigger.NOTE:
- During this period, meter gauge needles will move to maximum reading for 2-3 seconds before returning to rest, odometer will display "d16A" 2-3 times before returning to normal state and chimes will sound.
- Screen displays "Determining ICM protocol" and then the Retrieve/Restore Module Configuration menu. Select Retrieve Module Configuration - Old ECU and press Trigger.
- Screen displays warning "Data can only be stored in NGS Tester for 48 hours". If any data was previously stored for an ICM of another vehicle, this data will be lost. Press Trigger to continue.NOTE:
- During this period, meter gauge needles will move to maximum reading for 2-3 seconds before returning to rest, odometer will display "d16A" 2-3 times before returning to normal state and chimes will sound.
- Screen displays "Finding VID block" followed by "Retrieving VID block" and "Retrieving VIN from PCM". Screen then displays "Running self-test" followed by "This module has not been configured. Reinstall original module to retrieve configurable data. If old module is not available, continue for backup data". Press Trigger.
- Screen displays "Searching for ICM backup data" and then "Module data has been stored". Press Trigger.
- Select Restore Module Configuration - New ECU and press Trigger.
- Screen displays "Finding VID Block" followed by "Retrieving VIN from PCM" and "Module download successful" when finished.
- Turn Key OFF and disconnect the NGS Tester.NOTE:
- Odometer cannot be changed. Install odometer sticker with correct mileage on driver's door jam at "A" pillar.
