1999 Mazda 626 ES, 2.5 D, StandardSECTION Removal

CAUTION: Fuel system is under pressure. Release fuel pressure before servicing any fuel system components. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASEΒ .
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Drain transaxle fluid.
  4. Disconnect P/S pump pipes, and drain reservoir.
  5. Remove the splash shield (RH).
  6. Remove the joint shaft (RH).
  7. Disconnect the driveshaft (LH) from the transaxle.
  8. Remove battery and battery tray.
  9. Remove air cleaner, intake air duct, acclerator cable and bracket, and vacuum hose.
  10. Remove transmission filler tube and selector cable (A/T).
  11. Remove cruise control actuator.
  12. Remove radiator.
  13. WARNING:
    • Fuel vapor is hazardous. It can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames away from fuel.
    • Fuel line spills and leakage are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel can also irritate skin and eyes.
  14. Using Special Tool (49UN01052) for 3/8" hose or (49UN01052) for 1/2" hose, disconnect plastic fuel hose quick release connector. See Figure.
  15. NOTE: DO NOT disconnect engine side of harness.
  16. Disconnect PCM wiring harness at PCM.
  17. Pull harness through dash lower panel into engine compartment.
  18. Remove front exhaust pipe.
  19. Remove drive belt.
  20. Remove A/C compressor with hoses attached, and secure components aside.
  21. Remove generator and bracket.
  22. NOTE: To identify engine mounts, see Figure.
  23. Remove No. 2 engine mount nut.
  24. NOTE: Suspend the engine using SST 49 G017 5A0 and SST 49 L017 5A0.
  25. Remove engine mount member.
  26. NOTE: Remove the through-bolt which mounts the No. 1 engine mount rubber and joint bracket. DO NOT remove the No. 1 engine mount rubber from the vehicle. Ensure transaxle is supported.
  27. Remove No. 1 engine mount through-bolt.
  28. Remove No. 1 engine joint bracket
  29. Remove No. 3 engine joint bracket.
  30. Remove No. 3 engine mount rubber.
  31. Remove No. 4 engine mount through-bolt.
  32. NOTE: When installing the No. 4 engine joint bracket, tighten the nut on the center of the joint backet first, then tighten both side nuts.
  33. Remove No. 4 engine joint bracket.
  34. NOTE: Loosen the No. 4 mount rubber installation bolt, DO NOT remove the mount from the vehicle. Remove the through-bolt which mounts the mount rubber and joint bracket.
  35. Remove No. 4 engine mount rubber.
  36. Remove engine and transaxle from vehicle.
