Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection

1995 Mazda B4000 2WD V6-4.0L OHVSECTION Testing and Inspection
Preparation
1. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
2. Turn all electrical loads off:
^ Headlamp switch
^ Blower switch
^ Climate control panel switch

Note: If the climate control panel is in DEFROSTER mode, the A/C compressor will be ON. Do not set this mode during ignition timing and idle speed adjustment or self-diagnostic start-up.

3. Place the transmission into Neutral (MT) or Park (AT).

Ignition Timing
1. Perform Preparation. (Refer to above.)
2. Connect a timing light to the engine.
3. Verify that the ignition timing is within specification.

Specification: BTDC 10 ±2° (8-12°)

4. If the ignition timing is not within specification, check the crankshaft position sensor for damage.

NOTE: Timing is preset and not adjustable.
