Neutral Switch

1988 Mazda B2200 SE-5, 2D Pickup, AutomaticSECTION Neutral Switch
  1. Disconnect switch connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between switch Blue/Green and Black terminals. With shift lever in Neutral, no continuity should be present.
  2. With shift lever in other positions, continuity should be present. If ohmmeter readings are not as specified, replace neutral switch.
  3. Using Self-Diagnostic Checker (49 H018 9A1 ), check self diagnostic checker monitor light while moving shift lever. On vehicles with automatic transmissions, with shifter in "P" or "N" position, monitor light should be off. With shifter in other positions, monitor light should be on.
  4. On vehicles with manual transmissions, with shifter in Neutral, monitor light should be off. With shifter in gear, monitor light should be on. If monitor light does not operate as specified, check ECU terminal 1N and neutral or inhibitor switch.
