Idle Switch

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature and run engine at idle speed. Connect tachometer to engine. Connect voltmeter to idle switch terminal Lt. Green/Red wire.
  2. Increase engine speed to greater than 2000 RPM. Decelerate gradually and note voltmeter reading. With engine speed at 1000-1200 RPM, reading should be less than 1.5 volt.
  3. With engine speed at idle, reading should be 12 volts. If voltage reading is not as specified, turn idle switch adjustment screw to adjust.
  4. Using Self-Diagnostic Checker (49 H018 9A1) and with shift lever in Neutral, check self-diagnostic checker monitor light while depressing accelerator pedal.
  5. With accelerator pedal released, monitor light should be off. With accelerator pedal depressed, monitor light should be on. If monitor light does not operate as specified, check ECU terminal 1D and idle switch.
