Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

The stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon) in the IPC provides traction control system status to the driver. When the driver deactivates the traction control, the IPC sends a message to the GWM over the HS-CAN 3 indicating the driver has requested the traction control to be disabled. The GWM relays this message to the ABS module over the HS-CAN 2. The ABS module continues to monitor for excessive wheel spin, but no longer takes any action when a traction event is detected. 

The ABS module then sends a message to the GWM over the HS-CAN 2 to illuminate the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon). The GWM relays this message to the IPC over the HS-CAN 3. The IPC responds by illuminating the stability-traction control disabled indicator (sliding car OFF icon). The traction control system remains deactivated until the driver changes the traction control state in the message center or until the ignition is cycled. 

MyKey® allows users to configure traction control to be either always on or selectable. If a MyKey® restricted key is in use with the MyKey® traction control feature configured to "always on", traction control cannot be disabled. An admin key must be used to enable and disable traction control.

Possible Causes 

• A MyKey® restricted key is in use
• Network communication concern
• Message center concern
• GWM concern
• IPC concern

1. E1: VERIFY THAT THE KEY IN USE IS NOT RESTRICTED 
   • Ignition ON, engine OFF.
   • Monitor the message center.
   • Does the message center display MYKEY ACTIVE DRIVE SAFELY? 

     Yes	No
     The current key is a restricted key and is operating correctly. REPEAT the test using a different key until the message center does not display MYKEY ACTIVE DRIVE SAFELY. Go to  E2.	Go to  E2.

2. E2: VERIFY THE MYKEY® TRACTION CONTROL SETTING 
   • Using the message center, verify the MyKey® traction control setting. Refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on setting the MyKey® functions.
   • Is the MyKey® traction control setting configured to always on? 

     Yes	No
     Go to  E3.	Go to  E4.

3. E3: VERIFY TRACTION CONTROL FUNCTION CAN BE DISABLED USING THE ADMIN KEY 
   • Using the message center, verify traction control can be enabled and disabled using the admin key. Refer to the Owner's Literature for instructions on enabling and disabling traction control.
   • Can traction control be enabled and disabled using the admin key? 

     Yes	No
     The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by the use of a restricted key. INFORM the customer the traction control can only be disabled using an admin key when the MyKey® traction control setting is configured to always on.	Go to  E4.

4. E4: CHECK FOR ABS MODULE DTCS 
   • Carry out the ABS self-test.
   • Are any DTCs present? 

     Yes	No
     REFER to the ABS Module DTC Chart.	Go to  E5.

5. E5: CHECK FOR GWM DTCS 
   • Carry out the GWM self-test.
   • Are any DTCs present? 

     Yes	No
     DIAGNOSE the GWM DTC. REFER to Module Communications Network (Except Hybrid) .	Go to  E7.

6. E6: CHECK FOR BCM DTCS 
   • Carry out the BCM self-test.
   • Are any DTCs present? 

     Yes	No
     DIAGNOSE the BCM DTC. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules (Except Hybrid) .	Go to  E7.

7. E7: CHECK FOR IPC DTCS 
   • Carry out the IPC self-test.
   • Are any DTCs present? 

     Yes	No
     DIAGNOSE the IPC DTC. REFER to Information Center - Instrumentation, Message Center And Warning Chimes (Except Hybrid) .	The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
