Pinpoint Test G: The Head Up Display (HUD) Module Is Inoperative
Normal Operation
The Head Up Display (HUD) module is designed with a temperature sensor internal to the module. Due to extremely hot weather conditions, the temperature sensor circuit is designed to allow the HUD (Head Up Display) module to become disabled under high temperature conditions which could damage the HUD (Head Up Display) module LEDs. The LEDs remain off until the internal temperature is cool enough to operate and not damage the LEDs. The forward collision avoidance system still operates, but only a chime from the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is observed and the audio system is muted.
The HUD (Head Up Display) module is designed with a LED prove-out test. Upon each ignition cycle when the ignition switch is in RUN, the LEDs illuminate for a period of time indicating the HUD (Head Up Display) module is functional.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- HUD (Head Up Display) module
- Cruise-Control Module (C-CM)
PINPOINT TEST G : THE HUD (Head Up Display) MODULE IS INOPERATIVE
T1 CHECK FOR HUD (Head Up Display) MODULE LED PROVE OUT TEST
NOTE: Make sure to remove the vehicle from the extreme heat source or sunload condition prior to testing the vehicle.
- Ignition ON.
- While placing the ignition switch in RUN, observe the HUD (Head Up Display) module LEDs.
Do the HUD (Head Up Display) module LEDs illuminate?
Yes
The HUD (Head Up Display) module LEDs are operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by extreme temperatures. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to G2.
G2 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE CONTINUOUS AND ON-DEMAND HUD (Head Up Display) MODULE AND C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) SELF-TESTS
- Check the HUD (Head Up Display) module and C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For HUD (Head Up Display) module DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Forward Collision Warning
For C-CM (Cruise-Control Module) DTCs, REFER to Cruise Control.
No
INSTALL a new HUD (Head Up Display) module. REFER to Head Up Display (HUD) Module . CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
