Safety Warning
DIY auto repair can cause serious injury, fire, or vehicle damage. These guides are for informational purposes only. Always follow OEM torque specs, wear PPE, and consult a certified mechanic if you are unsure. You are solely responsible for your safety.
DTC Description
The PCM monitors the rear HO2S signal fluctuation which represents catalyst conversion properties. This signal fluctuation will determine if the catalyst efficiency is low due to aging or poisoning caused by leaded fuel or engine misfires. If the signal fluctuation average of the rear HO2S is higher than the predetermined threshold value, the PCM sets DTC P042000.
*Both front and rear oxygen sensors will have similar signal fluctuations when the catalytic converter is inefficient.
