DTC Information: DTC Detecting Condition

2020 Kia Soul LX, Standard TransSECTION DTC Detecting Condition
Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
DTC Strategy
  • Signal monitoring
  • Incorrect wheel speed sensor mounting (air gap)
  • Wheel speed sensor knuckle mounting bolt bad connection
  • Deformation/contamination of tone wheel and poor performance
  • External mechanical interference (vibration)
  • Defective rotor and wheel bearing
  • Faulty wheel speed sensor
  • Faulty sensor circuit
  • Faulty HECU
Enable Condition
  • Engine "ON"
  • Continuous monitoring at vehicle speed over 40km/h (24.9mph)
  • No related DTC is stored
Threshold Value Case1
  • ESC monitors abnormal wheel speed variation. This monitoring function works when the vehicle speed is above 2km/h (1.2MPH)
  1. Controller counts the number of the wheel acceleration of Β±100g. When the numbers exceed 56 times at one wheel or 5 times at two wheels
  2. Controller counts the number of the wheel acceleration of 70g. When the numbers exceed 126 times at one wheel or 20 times at two wheels
  3. The wheel deceleration of -100g causes the controller to start monitoring this failure and to compare the wheel velocity with the vehicle velocity from next cycle. When its difference of -100g is continued for more than 140ms

    * Speed jump error counter is cleared every 30 minutes

  4. Controller counts the number of the wheel acceleration of 28g

    * The counter of speed jump "4)" is cleared when all of following conditions are satisfied more than 10s consecutively

  • Corresponding wheel speed is over 10km/h (6.2MPH) following condition
Case2
  • A failure is detected in case that three wheel speeds are above 15km/h (9.3MPH) and in specific range and another wheel speed is out of specific range longer than 20s
  • A failure is detected in case that two wheel speeds are above 15km/h (9.3MPH) and in specific range and other wheel speed(s) is(are) out of specific range longer than 60s
  • A failure is detected in case that Min wheel speed is less than 60% of Max wheel speed which is over than 40km/h (24.9MPH) for more than 2 minutes
  • A failure is detected in case that Min wheel speed is less than 40% of Max wheel speed which is over than 20km/h (12.4MPH) and less than 40km/h (24.9MPH) for more than 2 minutes
Warning Lamp
  • In case of failure on more than one wheel
    • ESC/DBC/AVH warning lamp "ON"
  • In case of failure on more than two wheels
    • EBD warning lamp "ON"
  • In case of failure on all wheels
    • Warning lamp "ON"
Failsafe
  • Ignition "OFF" and then "ON", specified vehicle speed is maintained

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

  • β€’ You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.
  • β€’ Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
  • β€’ The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
  • β€’ You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.
  • β€’ You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
