Service Guidelines Regarding Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) On Delphi/Bosch EMS Systems

Throttle initialization occurs every time the ignition switch is turned to the run position. This is part of the Throttle Position (TP) minimum learn process. The PCM uses this to base line the Throttle Position performance. The throttle plate moves from default to minimum mechanical position and back to the default position. Once learned the PCM/ECM will not perform the minimum learn again until 20 key cycles of PCM/ECM wake-up.

ETC System Initialization:

1. Erase any Stored Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition key OFF until the Main Relay is powered down, this takes approximately 10 seconds.

3. Turn the ignition key ON for more then 1 second to record the throttle motor position in the ECM
