Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
The PCM opens and closes the ignition coil ground circuit to adjust ignition timing according to engine operating conditions. The amount of electronic spark advance provided by the PCM is determined by coolant temperature sensor, crankshaft position sensor (engine RPM), manifold absolute pressure sensor and throttle position sensor inputs. When to See a Mechanic
Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

- • Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.
- • The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.
