- Clean metal components with solvent and dry with compressed air. Inspect components for damage. Using micrometer, measure clutch disc thickness. Replace clutch disc if thickness is less than .060" (1.52 mm).
- Using caliper, measure free length of piston return springs with springs installed in retainer. Replace piston return springs if free length is not .767" (19.48 mm).NOTE: Piston return spring free length also includes thickness of retainer.
- Ensure check ball in clutch piston moves freely. Apply low air pressure against check ball in clutch piston. Air should not leak past check ball. Replace clutch piston if check ball is defective.
- Measure inside diameter of forward clutch drum bushing. Replace forward clutch drum if bushing inside diameter is greater than .948" (24.08 mm).
