1. Operate air conditioning system for 10 minutes.
2. Stop engine, then disconnect A.C. compressor clutch connector.
3. Front-seat the discharge and suction service valves.
4. Determine mounting angle as follows:
a. Using suitable angle gauge across the flat surfaces of the front mounting ears.
b. Read the mounting angle to the closest degree.
c. All models except Grand Wagoneer, have 0 ° mounting angle.
d. Grand Wagoneer models, have 65 ° mounting angle.

5. On models with SD 508 compressor, look through oil filler plug hole and rotate clutch front plate to position internal parts.

6. On models with SD 709 compressor, rotate clutch front plate counterweight to 30 °.

7. On all models, insert dipstick tool No. J29642-12 to its stop position. The stop is the angle near the top of dipstick. The bottom surface of the angle must be flush with surface of oil filler hole.
8. Remove dipstick, then compare to chart.
9. Add or subtract oil until mid-range value is reached. For example if mounting angle is 10 ° and dipstick increment is 3, add oil until 7 is attained.
10. Ensure seat and oil ring are secure and clean.
11. Install oil filler plug, torque to 6-9 ft. lbs.
