- Raise and support vehicle. Drain lubricant from transfer case. Disconnect speedometer cable and vent hose. Disconnect transfer case shift lever link at operating lever. Place a safety stand under transmission and remove rear transmission crossmember.
- Mark transfer case front and rear output shafts at transfer case yokes and drive shafts for installation alignment reference. Disconnect front and rear drive shafts at transfer case yokes. Secure shafts. Disconnect shift motor vacuum hoses.
- Disconnect transfer case shift linkage. Remove transfer case-to-transmission bolts. Move transfer case assembly rearward until clear of transmission output shaft and remove assembly. Remove all gasket material from rear of transmission adapter housing.
