1986 Jeep Cherokee Base, 4D Utility, 2.5 H, 4WD, Standard, AX4SECTION Electronic Control Module

The electronic control module has 6 wires that lead to 2-wire and 4-wire connectors. The Red and White wires leading to the 2-wire connector are ignition feed circuits. The White wire is for cranking ignition. The Red wire supplies ignition current with engine running.

The electronic control module uses the Green wire to turn power to the ignition coil off and on. The Orange and Purple wires transmit signals from the pick-up coil to the control unit. The Black wire supplies the distributor ground circuit.

NOTE: The ECU is sealed to resist moisture, dirt and atmospheric conditions. It is non-serviceable and is replaced as a complete unit.
