Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Programming and Setup: Introduction

The replacement of the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) will require that the SDM part number be relearned by other modules such as the body control module (BCM) and the powertrain control module (PCM). The following procedures are designed to setup the SDM correctly and must be performed.

IMPORTANT: The Air Bag indicator may illuminate and DTC B1001 may set during the BCM reprogramming procedure.
  1. With the scan tool perform the Setup SDM Part Number in BCM procedure located within the Body Control Module > Special Functions menu.
  2. With the scan tool perform the Setup New SDM function located within the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint > Module Setup menu.
  3. Clear any diagnostic trouble codes (DTC).
  4. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle .
