In order to access OBD II Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data, use of the TECH1 scan tool is required.
1. The electronic diagnosis equipment is composed of:
(1) TECH1 (J-38770-1) hand-held scan tool (Fig. 7A-9).
(2) TECH1 self-test adapter.
(3) Manufacturer's operating instructions.
2. Transmission cartridge
The cartridge (No. 7000066) must be inserted into the TECH1 for the 4L30-E transmission diagnosis (Fig. 7A-9a).
3. Connecting the TECH1
For the TECH1 to interpret the Class 2 Data Bus used by OBD II, it is necessary to use the TECH1 application kit part #7000041 or #7000041A.

- 5000058 - VIM MANUAL

Kit part No. 7000041A:
- Kit 7000041 + CABLE (TA-11-B)
(1) Always observe the instructions in the TECH1 and Transmission Cartridge Operator's Manual.
(2) Make sure the vehicle ignition is off.
(3) Install the VIM and 16/24 PIN VIM DLC ADAPTER CABLE between the TECH1 and PCM Data Link Connector (DLC, C-63) (Fig. 7A-9b & 7A-9c).
4. DVOM
When instructed to use a voltmeter or ohmmeter within a troubleshooting procedure, use only a high-impedance DVOM (Digital Volt Ohm Meter) such as J-39200 or equivalent.
