Diagnostic Procedures
1996 Isuzu Trooper S, AutomaticSECTION Diagnostic Procedures

- Perform On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check. Read and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read and record FAIL RECORDS data for DTC P0341. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAIL RECORDS data. Using scan tool, read SPECIFIC DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P0341 FAILED THIS IGN, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DTC P0341 FAILED THIS IGN, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDSΒ .
- Disconnect CMP sensor. Measure voltage at CMP sensor harness connector. between senor feed circuit and sensor ground circuit. If DVOM reading is around 5-6 volts, go to next step. If reading is not as specified, go to step 5).
- Measure voltage between CMP sensor signal circuit and sensor ground circuit at CMP sensor harness connector. If reading is around 5-7 volts, got to step 11). If reading is not as specified, go to step 8).
- If voltage measured in step 3 was less then 5-6 volts, go to next step. If voltage in step 3 was greater than 5-6 volts, repair short to voltage in CMP supply circuit and go to step 16).
- Inspect CMP sensor for poor connections. If a problem, was found, repair problem as necessary and go to step 16). If no problem was found, go to next step.
- With ignition off, disconnect PCM and CMP sensor. Inspect sensor feed circuits for an open between ignition control module and CMP sensor. If a problem was found, repair as necessary and go tostep 16). If no problem was found, go to step 9).
- With ignition off, disconnect PCM and leave CMP sensor disconnected. Turn ignition on and check CMP sensor signal circuit for an open or a short to voltage and check CMP sensor input signal circuit for a short to ground. If a problem was found, repair as necessary and go to step 16). If no problem was found, go to next step.
- Check for open or short in CMP sensor ground circuit. If a problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 16). If no problem is found, go to next step.
- Check for poor connection at PCM. If a problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step 16). If no open is found, go to next step.
- Using DVOM backprobe sensor connector at CMP signal circuit. With sensor connected, crank engine and monitor voltage. If voltage toggle between 0-4 volts, go to step 15). If voltage does not toggle between 0-4 volts, go to next step.
- Leaving senor wiring connected, remove distributor cap front cover. Place a magnet on CMP senor face which normally faces magnet in distributor. Using DVOM measure voltage. If reading is not as specified, go to step 14). If voltage reads at around zero, got to next step.
- Replace faulty or missing magnet and go to step 16).
- Replace CMP sensor and go to step 16).
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After repair is completed, go to next step.
- Read and record FAIL RECORDS data for DTC P0336. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAIL RECORDS data. Using scan tool, read SPECIFIC DTC. If scan tool displays DTC P0336 FAILED THIS IGN, return to step 2). If scan tool does not display DTC P0336 FAILED THIS IGN, repair is complete.
