EGR system reduces oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by recycling (through EGR valve) some exhaust gas back into intake manifold in order to lower combustion chamber temperature. See Figure .

EGR system consists of an EGR valve, EGR cut solenoid, EGR duty solenoid, backpressure transducer, vacuum regulator and a vacuum tank.
