These precautions should be observed when working with air bag systems:
- When performing air bag repairs, disable SIR system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEMΒ . Failure to do this could result in accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury.
- After repairs, turn ignition on from passenger side of vehicle in case of accidental air bag deployment. Ensure INFL REST indicator light is working properly and no system faults are indicated. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECKΒ .
- After air bag deployment, air bag surface may contain deposits of sodium hydroxide, which irritates skin. Always wear safety glasses, rubber gloves and long-sleeved shirt during cleanup. Wash hands using mild soap and water. Follow correct disposal procedures.
- NEVER strike or jar a sensor. All sensors and mounting bracket bolts must be carefully torqued to ensure proper sensor operation.
- NEVER apply power to SIR system if a sensor is not rigidly attached to vehicle.
- To avoid air bag deployment and possible personal injury when trouble shooting SIR system, only use test equipment specified in diagnostic charts. NEVER use battery-powered test equipment or test light. Carefully follow all instructions.
- No repairs should be performed on any portion of SIR wiring circuit.
- Always carry air bag module with trim over away from body. Always place inflatable module on workbench with trim cover up, away from loose objects.
