Based on information from various sensors, the ECM can calculate the fuel amount to be injected. The fuel injector is a solenoid-operated valve and the fuel injection amount is controlled by length of injection time.
In order to improve fuel economy, improve engine performance and reduce emissions, the ECM adjusts the injector operating time to reflect the mass air flow into the cylinder and the air-fuel ratio during the exhaust to control the fuel injection volume to meet the air-fuel ratio required by the engine control system.
The ECM controls GDI/MPI single injection, GDI + MPI double injection, GDI ←→ MPI change injection according to engine RPM, intake air mass.
