DTC P0196: Engine Oil Temperature Sensor-Range/Performance: General Description

2014 Hyundai Santa Fe XL PremiumSECTION General Description

The Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system uses engine oil pressure to change the camshaft timing according to engine operating conditions. Engine oil viscosity changes according to engine temperature. The Oil Temperature Sensor (OTS) signal along with coolant and intake air temperature is used by the PCM to compensate for changes in oil viscosity when commanding the Oil Control Valve (OCV). The OTS measures the engine oil temperature before the engine oil flows through the OCV.
