- While holding clutch housing, rotate drive pinion. Drive pinion should rotate smoothly in one direction, but not in the reverse direction. See Fig 1 Replace overrunning clutch if operation is not as specified. See OVERHAUL .
- Visually inspect drive pinion. If drive pinion is worn or burred, replace overrunning clutch. If drive pinion is damaged, also check ring gear for wear or burrs. See OVERHAUL .
