Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

1996 Hyundai Elantra L4-1.8LSECTION Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Place manual control lever in Neutral position, then remove control lever retainer and control lever.
3. Disconnect electrical harness, then remove switch retaining bolts and switch assembly.
4. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:




a. Adjust switch, with manual control lever in Neutral position, turn switch body until wide end of control lever aligns with switch body flange.
b. Hold switch body in position, torque retaining bolts to 10-12 Nm (7-9 ft.lbs.)


NOTE: When setting up the switch body, be careful not to drop 0-ring from the switch body. Tighten the attaching bolts carefully.
