Fwd Axle Shafts: Removal
1994 Hyundai Excel GL, Automatic, KM176SECTION Removal, Disassembly, Reassembly & Installation
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheel. Remove axle nut cotter pin, and loosen axle nut. Remove engine undercover (if equipped). Drain transaxle fluid.
- Remove lower ball joint-to-lower control arm mounting bolts or separate lower ball joint from steering knuckle. Remove tie rod from steering knuckle.
- Insert pry bar between transaxle case and inner CV joint housing. Pry axle shaft assembly from transaxle. See Fig 1 . Use care not to damage oil seal.
- Using a universal puller, press outer CV joint axle shaft through wheel hub. Prevent hub spacer from falling out when removing shaft.
